Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of this earth... I may have had a tough break, but I have an awful lot to live for. - Lou Gehrig July 4th, 1939
Welcome
to the Jim Himelic Foundation (JHF) website. The Jim Himelic Foundation is a grassroots organization established by Jim’s family and friends after he courageously lost his battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in 2000.
More commonly referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” this degenerative disease has no known cure, and only limited treatment is available for current ALS patients.
The goal of the Jim Himelic Foundation is to help contribute to the many ongoing fundraising and research efforts that are determined to “Eradicate ALS.” Through our annual golf tournament, dinner, and silent and live auctions, JHF seeks to raise ONE MILLION DOLLARS for ALS research at the University of Arizona. To date, the one-day event has raised $567,000. However, for the Jim Himelic Foundation to be successful in achieving its goal, much more support is still needed.
The 8th Annual Jim Himelic Memorial Golf Classic took place on May 2, 2008 at the beautiful OMNI Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa located in Tucson, Arizona. To view pictures and the ALS research video from this year’s golf tournament, please visit the 2008 Tournament page.
